Job Description:

Role Purpose:
The job of the Surgery Scheduler is to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of scheduling surgical procedures and pre-anesthesia visits

• Maintains the integrity of the organization and department by ensuring that all pertinent information is kept confidential.
• Schedules surgical procedures efficiently and appropriately by obtaining and entering necessary information regarding the procedure correctly and in a timely manner.
• Answers the telephone and communicates messages in an appropriate, professional manner. Is aware of the instrument and equipment limitations of the department when scheduling procedures.
• Allows adequate time for each procedure according to the physician's request. Reviews and revises the surgery schedule daily as needed.
• Refers conflicts and procedural questions to the Perioperative Director. Prepares and distributes the surgery schedule to appropriate departments.
• Communicates any changes affecting the following day's surgery schedule to the charge nurse/manager and necessary departments to ensure efficient supplies and work flow.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to maintain appropriate work flow. Communicates effectively with customers to ensure exception customer service. Maintains a safe work environment per department policy.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school or equivalent GED
• Completes annual competencies for position.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Medical terminology
• Typing 35 wpm
• Good computer skills

Physical Requirements: Employees in this position are, or can be, required to possess the following physical capabilities:
• Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects
• Stooping, kneeling and/or crouching daily
• Standing or walking more than 8 hours a day
• Reaching, grasping, fingering, and/or feeling more than 8 hours a day
• Audio acuity to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment that would indicate dangerous or improper operation
