Job Description:

Role Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Medical Director and Respiratory Therapy Department Director, the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) is responsible for providing Respiratory Care services in accordance with specific physician's orders, department policies and procedures, and guidelines.

• Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery and assesses possible side effects of oxygen delivery.
• Performs pulse oximetry single and multiple checks with exercise and documentation of results as needed.
• Administers respiratory therapy medications appropriately and understands the various modalities, purpose and side effects.
• Set-up and monitoring of mechanical ventilators, assists with endotracheal intubations and airway maintenance.
• Assists physician with bedside bronchoscopy, and obtaining, accurately labeling and timely delivery of specimens obtained.
• Performs non-invasive ventilation with BiPAP and Vision systems as needed.
• Performs bedside spirometry testing according to ATS guidelines and accurately documents results in the chart/distributes copy to physician.
• Performs bronchial hygiene modalities such as CPT, flutter valve, and vest therapy as needed.
• Performs equipment cleaning and reassembly correctly. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill with equipment set-up and alarm testing such as SST for 840 ventilators.
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill for obtaining ABG and using I-STAT analyzer.
• Assist with training of students and other staff as indicated.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduate of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy
• NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist; IL licensure RCP
• Completion of school clinical rotations

Physical Requirements: Employees in this position are, or can be, required to possess the following physical capabilities:
• Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects
• Stooping, kneeling and/or crouching daily
• Standing or walking more than 2 hours a day
• Running to respond to patient emergencies
• Reaching, grasping, fingering, and/or feeling more than 1 hours a day
• Visual acuity in order to correctly distinguish skin tone variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection; able to read telemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc.
• Audio acuity in order to correctly distinguish various body sounds (i.e., respirations, heart tones, bowel sounds).
• Audio acuity to discern sounds made by various types of machinery or equipment that would indicate dangerous or improper operation
